St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub Review
So, physical exfoliation has been getting a bad rep in the world of skincare lately. I myself have been trying to make the switch from physical to chemical exfoliation, but it has been hard because of this one product that has pretty much done wonders for my skin- the St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub.
Like many people, I too have once used St Ive's ever notorious apricot scrub when I was younger. But when news came out about its potentially damaging effects I vowed to stay away from St Ives as a whole...until I used this scrub. And since the first time I've used it it has changed my skin so much that it has a permanent spot in my routine for close to a year now.
First of, the beads in this scrub are very fine, and ever so gentle. So unless you yourself are really pushing hard into your skin and scrubbing vigorously for minutes on end, there isn't much of a chance that this will damage your skin. However, I would still personally recommend you to use the scrub only 2-3 times a week.
My other favourite thing about the product is that other than being a physical exfoliant, it also contains 1% salicylic acid, a BHA. Those with acne are probably familiar with this ingredient, but here's a quick rundown of what salicylic acid is- essentially it helps break down the substance causing skin to stick together, making it easier to clean out your pores from all the gunk and old skin cells.
I initially did not buy this product as an acne treatment, but rather to buff my rough, textured skin. But I was very surprised and happy to find out that after a few weeks of usage, not only was my skin much smoother and softer and free of blackheads, I also had much less acne.
I also really like the fact that after I use this, my skin just absorbs all the toners, serums and creams I put after so much better. It also doesn't dry out my skin, which I found quite surprising as most acne treatments do.
The only thing I didn't like about this product was the fact that there is quite a bit of fragrance in there. Like sure, it smells great, but it just isn't good for your skin. Although so far I have not actually found it irritating to the skin, probably because it is a wash off product.
Overall after months of using this product I can safely say it has made my skin smoother, improved texture, clear up acne, and even help fade some dark spots. It has made such a difference in fact that I have been quite unwilling to stop if for a while to try out some chemical exfoliators, in fear that my skin would go back to being textured and bumpy should it not work.
So there you have it, that's my review of the St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub. Who would have thought such a cheap product from a brand so many people dislike could have made such improvements to my skin?
